About Us

Welcome to Wayside, it was purchased by ourselves (Lynn and Steven Johns) in 2004. We fell in love with it immediately, it had so much potential and character. The large and small barn were literally derelict. We obtained planning permission in 2006 and commenced renovations straight away. We won't bore you with the details but needless to say it has been a long hard learning curve. We have done the majority of the work ourselves, but the craftsmen we got in to help have been fantastic, we have tried to give the building the respect and consideration that it deserves, and hopefully we have succeeded, leaving many of the original features. Every room is different and has its individual character. The bedrooms are large with high beam ceilings with oak window seats. The Annexe is a lovely building separate from the barn, but attached to the actual farmhouse itself, with a totally independant entrance.

Where possible all our food is locally sourced and freshly made. Our eggs are purchased from the farm down the road which are very free range eggs as you will see if you go past them on the left hand side going towards Millom. Any food waste  that can be recycled goes into our compost bins to generate liquid fertiliser and compost which we then utilise on our gardens. We grow our own herbs and in the future we hope to grow our own vegetables in a plot at the back of the property.

We will endeavour to make your stay with us an enjoyable one, and we hope you will take time to appreciate this beautiful part of the county and what it has to offer. We have two fantastic riding stables nearby, and a recently opened Sled Dog Adventure business, a perfect way to see the area.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.
